Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, except for non-melanoma skin cancers. In her lifetime, one in eight women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. A woman will be diagnosed with breast cancer, on average, every three minutes. An estimated 182,460 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to occur among women in the United States during 2008. An estimated 40,480 women will die from breast cancer. It is estimated that 1,990 men will be diagnosed and 450 men will die of breast cancer during 2008.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the fight against breast cancer. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures.
